Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026

This policy explains how NZ Restaurant (“we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use nz-restaurant.com and its restaurant sub-domains. We follow the information privacy principles of the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and, for visitors from the EU/UK, the GDPR.

Information we collect

  • Messages you send us – name, email address and message content from the contact and “add your restaurant” forms.
  • Reviews – the name, rating and text you choose to publish, plus a one-way hashed network identifier used only to prevent spam.
  • Location for “near me” – only when you tap a “near me” button and give permission in your browser. Coordinates are used once to find nearby venues and are not stored.
  • Technical data – standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) kept for security and troubleshooting.
  • Cookies and similar technologies – see our cookie policy. Analytics and advertising cookies are only used after you accept them.

How we use it

To reply to you, update listings, publish reviews, keep the site secure, understand which pages are useful (aggregated analytics) and – if you consent – show relevant advertising through Google AdSense.

Third parties

Maps are provided by Google Maps; loading a map shares your IP address with Google. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics and Google AdSense may set cookies and process data under Google's own policies (how Google uses data). We never sell personal information.

Retention & security

Messages are kept for up to 24 months, reviews for as long as they are published, and logs for up to 90 days. Data is stored on secured servers with access limited to our team.

Your rights

You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
